Driving from Auckland to Mill Bay Haven in Mangonui

Mill Bay Haven is about 315km north of Auckland, or about 4 hours driving. You drive on highway 1 most of the way, before changing to highway 10 at Pakaraka which is reached after 235 km.

On highway 1 drive north past Whangarei which is 160km north of Auckland, and which you reach after about 2 hours. Continue north on highway 1 for another 60 km to a town called Kawakawa. Just before Kawakawa township, there is a major left turn (which is easily missed) but which is necessary for you to make to stay on highway 1.

Drive through the town of Kawakawa, then after 6 km through the town of Moerewa. 7 km after Moerewa, there is another important junction at a place called Pakaraka (about 1 hours driving from Whangarei) where you must turn right off highway 1, and on to highway 10 which you follow from then on, all the way to Mangonui. From here, Mangonui is about 75km away, or about 1 hours driving.

About 15km after the Pakaraka turn off, highway 10 passes through a roundabout, then goes through the towns of Waipapa and Kaeo. Just north of Kaeo the highway makes a left turn across a one lane bridge before it goes past the headwaters of Whangaroa harbour, and then the headwaters of Mangonui harbour, soon after which there is a sign-posted turn off to the right which you should take to the township of Mangonui.

After 2 km you drive through Mangonui village, and after passing the famous fish shop, climb a small hill at the top of which is the police station. Just after the police station, turn right down Mabel Thorburn Drive, which follows the harbour edge and becomes Mill Bay Road. After about 0.5 km, turn right off Mill Bay Road into Silver Egg Drive which passes through the boat ramp parking area and across a one lane bridge, and ends in a cul de sac where the Mangonui Cruising Club is located.

Mill Lodge is located beyond the cul de sac at the end of Silver Egg Drive and our home/office is the second house after proceeding down the private driveway which you will see on the left of the white garage.
